As defined by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, Holocaust Memorial Day is the international day on 27th January 2025 to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of people murdered under Nazi persecution of other groups.
Pupils at Hartlepool School took some time out of the day to remember and for some learn about the Holocaust.
Students watched a documentary, discussed details of the Holocaust and completed worksheets on this which in included topics on:
- Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party
- The prejudice against the Jews
- The six extermination camps including Auschwitz and Birkenau
- The white rose movement
- The survivors of the Holocaust
Pupils had mixed emotions when discussing the Holocaust and what they had learned here are some of our pupils’ thoughts -
“Its very sad what happened, no one deserves this”
“Unfair on Jewish people”
“The Holocaust was very wrong and all Jews should be treated the same as everyone else.”
“I think its very scary what happened.”
“I thought this was very interesting to learn about and I’d like to visit the camp here, I learnt a lot about the Holocaust”
