Specialist Education

All children are making significant progress in school. They are currently working with the National Trust to complete an education award which builds resilience and confidence, and much of the National Trust education award is focused around nature, the outdoors and therapeuic outdoor learning.

Read our students comments below about their experiences:

"Throughout my childhood I never really engaged with nature, let alone do a bunch of activities like canoeing, climbing, biking, caving and archery. So I was understandably nervous when I was told what TOL is about. I initially declined participating when I first joined due to nerves, but eventually built up enough courage to go on a session. It was canoeing on a lake. I’d never been on a canoe in my life so it was a completely new experience for me. But I’m really happy I pushed through those initial nerves and participated. The session went well and I built up enough confidence to dunk my head in the water, something I never would’ve done at the start of the day, and I’ve never really looked back since then".

"I used to really struggle to verbalise issues or things I was struggling with. But because of being put in situations where you have to communicate and lead to get what you want from a situation, I now find it a lot easier to verbalise my thoughts and issues in every day situations".

"There are all these emotional and mental gains to participating in TOL, but it also has physical gains. TOL has really helped me both maintain a good fitness level and improve on that fitness level. This fitness can then be taken into other areas I personally enjoy like football, basketball and jogging.

Overall I think TOL has really helped me as a person and is definitely one the most impactful subjects in terms of how it’s changed me for the better and helped me learn some really important life lessons. The most relevant, for me, being if you put the effort in you can achieve nearly anything you want.
