In December we hold our annual Whinfell Christmas Markets where the young people, staff and visitors spend time at each stall which are held by different members of staff.
These stalls include a variety of activities including – festive games, raffles and arts & crafts where each activity requires a donation to take part in.
At the end we research items which are required and most in need at the local food bank and then in turn purchase these from the local supermarket using the donations we have collected.
We have a link with our local Morrisons store and their allocated Community Champion, who is tasked with supporting their local community and this provides additional donations.
Once we had completed the shopping the young people visited the local foodbank in Kendal to drop off the food items and received a tour around the warehouse along with a talk informing them of how the food bank runs and who it helps.
