Specialist Education

The Forum School offers a nurturing and supportive environment through its therapy services, including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychology and Music Therapy.

Using person-centred, evidence-based techniques such as Augmentative and Alternative Communication, or AAC, our Speech and Language Therapy team enhances communication skills and fosters social and language development in children and young adults. Among these techniques are communication boards, visuals, and speech-generating devices, e.g. the Smartbox electronic device. In addition to supporting language development, this boosts confidence and independence by providing alternative ways to communicate.

Our on-site occupational therapy services deliver tailored interventions for each student, aligned with their Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) and clinically assessed needs.

Our experienced occupational therapist specialises in sensory integration and the development of functional skills, supporting students in their activities of daily living (ADLs).

Using evidence-based research, our OT team empowers both staff and students by implementing appropriate adaptations, adjustments, and interventions to enhance students' daily experiences and overall well-being.

Our psychology services provide thorough assessments and individualised therapeutic interventions to address behavioural, emotional, and cognitive challenges.

Music Therapy is an established psychological clinical intervention which is delivered by the Music Therapist’s to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.

Furthermore, our Music Therapist is trained in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT), this is a neuroscientific model of Music Therapy which aims to address functional needs for individuals with neurological disorders. NMT is the therapeutic use of music applied to sensory, speech and language, cognitive, and motor dysfunctions after a neurologic event or diagnosis.

Our multidisciplinary approach to therapeutic care promotes the holistic development of young people, with therapy team members working together to provide individualised care to meet each child's needs.
