Students spent an enjoyable morning at the National Trust property, Saltram House, on the bank of the Plym Estuary in Plymouth. Saltram House, and gardens, is a fine example of an 18th Century Summer residence for a wealthy family.
They walked around some of the extensive grounds, spotting species of native wading birds, such as Little Egrets, in the estuary, and the noisy, colourful, Ring Tailed Parakeets in the trees; Plymouth has a resident population of these parrots, whose native home is India!
The students were also thrilled to see that the interior of the house was elaborately displayed as Santa’s house, packed with dozens of stunningly decorated Christmas trees, Christmas presents (including food for Rudolph in the kitchen), as well as evidence of how the residents of the house might have lived over 200 years ago.
