On Friday 5th July our students and Gary who is a teacher at Cambian Tyldesley school attended Manchester City centre for a SMSC trip.
Whilst in Manchester students took a tour around significant historical and cultural landmarks including the Manchester Cathedral, The Royal Exchange Theatre, Barton Arcade, Victoria Train Station (Arena memorial), Spinningfields and The Printworks. As a reward for excellent behaviour the students visited Treetop Golf.
Whilst on the outing students shown a genuine interest in the architecture, events and history of each site. All students demonstrated excellent manners and respect for others at all times. When gathering feedback from the students, all agreed Manchester Cathedral was their favourite part of the day. One student said “It’s amazing that buildings like this exist”, another said “I think it’s important that even if you don’t believe in somebody else’s religion you should still show them respect”.
For the next trip students have asked to focus on another culture, so we will be looking into attending Manchester Buddhist Centre and looking at some Asian cultural landmarks.
