Specialist Education

On Thursday 7th November we visited Chester zoo on a cross curricular trip, for PE, Humanities, Art and Science.

In our 3 hour visit we clocked up and impressive 10,000 steps getting our exercise for the day whilst exploring the zoo as well as eating lots of tasty and healthy snacks on our expedition, this links to our healthy lifestyles work in PE with Katie.

We investigated where the animals were from linking this to our Geography lessons with John and used our map reading skills to plan where to go.

Last half term, we had been studying African art with Kanisha so looked at some of the animals that had inspired our art work.

All staff and students braved the bat cave the smell of which will never be forgotten!

We found out about the important work of the zoo in animal conservation and their breeding programmes.

We looked at the Latin names of the animal’s and will link these to our studies of animal classification in science next term next term with Sophie. We also looked at animal habitats and behaviour and had a really great day out.
