In November pupils were taken on a school trip to visit the Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue.
Pupils learnt all about the service and the amazing work they do. They were shown the specialist equipment needed to carry out rescues efficiently and safely and even got to take part in a training exercise and practice rescue!
The rescue team works in cooperation with the police and other emergency services to relieve suffering and distress amongst persons affected by accidents or natural hazards on the North York Moors, Dalby Forest, Yorkshire Wolds or anywhere else they are needed.
There are currently fifty operational team members including doctors, paramedics, nurses and people with hillwalking and climbing experience.
The service is on call 24/7 365 days a year – whatever the weather. With all volunteers, receiving neither payment nor expenses for participating in training or incidents. The service relies solely on donations and sponsorship for funding.
