Beyond Housing Trip -  Wednesday 3rd July 2024

Our construction students visited the Beyond Housing Depot today to see the different possible vocational careers they could follow. We started the visit by talking about the different apprenticeships the students could do and what they would need to get there.

BH1

After the group was shown the different trades and jobs within a housing association and the variety of work they could undertake, we were taken into the apprentices’ training rooms. There were demonstrations from the roofing team, they showed how they work safely at height and using ladders.

The group saw how the ladders were set up safely on the roof and were shown the steps taken to make sure the ladders never fall over when somebody is working on them.

BH2

The group then met the gas engineers and were shown how the boilers were installed and correctly tested along with how the gas engineers install the electrics for the boiler.

BH3

After we had a demonstration from the electrical team, we saw how the circuits were tested in a house and how to identify a fault and fix it.

BH6

The group also met the exterior painting team who showed them how they would paint the outside of a house using the spider lift to get up to 14 metres high.

BH7

The group really enjoyed the visit to Beyond Housing and had a brilliant chat about the apprenticeships they could go into. We are very grateful to Beyond Housing for having us and inspiring our students!
