Great Dunmow School students stand together for Anti-Bullying Week with powerful 'Choose Respect' display
Students at Great Dunmow School have come together in a show of unity and kindness to mark Anti-Bullying Week, with this year's theme of "Choose Respect" resonating deeply throughout the school. The week-long initiative saw students of all ages participate in activities that encouraged empathy, kindness, and positive behaviour, culminating in the creation of a powerful and meaningful display board.
The display, which now takes pride of place in the school hallway, was designed and created entirely by the students themselves. Each class contributed to the project, with students writing messages of support, creating artwork, and sharing personal pledges about how they can contribute to a respectful and inclusive school environment.
Throughout the week, students also participated in workshops and discussions about bullying, learning how to recognize it, stand up against it, and support those who may be affected. The theme of “Choose Respect” was brought to life in a variety of creative ways, from role-playing scenarios to writing letters of encouragement for classmates.
Headteacher, Carrie-Ann Gibbs praised the students for their engagement and commitment to making the school a safer, more inclusive place. “The work our students have put into this Anti-Bullying Week has been truly inspiring," she said. "They’ve demonstrated an understanding of respect that goes beyond just words, and it’s heartening to see how much they care about creating a positive atmosphere for everyone in our school community.”
The display will remain on view for the rest of the term, serving as a lasting reminder to students of the importance of respect, kindness, and the power of choosing to treat others with dignity. The school is already planning additional events and initiatives to keep the conversation about bullying alive and ensure that the message of Anti-Bullying Week continues to resonate throughout the year.
For the students at Great Dunmow School, Anti-Bullying Week has been a chance to unite as a community and make a lasting impact, showing that when we choose respect, we all benefit.
