To our good fortune again this year, our local side Southampton were good enough to draw 1-1 in their Fourth Round FA Cup away game to Watford on the 28th January.
Our passionate and dedicated PE Teacher, Mr Lopez, was then able to spring into action, securing a number of tickets for the match replay at St Mary’s Stadium - This was a rare opportunity for our school community and one that had to be seized quickly!
There were a number of students and staff who were really keen to express their interest in going to the match.
On the chilly Tuesday evening, 6th February, the excited group of students and staff headed to the FA Cup fixture.
The first half was much of a ‘feeling out’ process with both sides locked at 0-0 at half time; however, the second half is when the action happened!
Those attending were treated to a 3 goal masterclass by Southampton, securing them the win and progression to the next round.
This was a real community event with a whopping crowd of 17,844 at St Mary’s Stadium. They were able to witness a great performance and hopefully made memories that will last a lifetime.
Some staff and students reported it was the best game of football they have ever been to and this has fuelled their desire to go again!
Come on you REDS!
