For Geography, the year 10s and 11s went to the Energy from Waste centre in Plymouth to get a wider view and understanding of what happens to the waste collected in Devon. This links nicely to our next module which looks at the 3 Rs – reduce, reuse, and recycle. We learnt about the vehicles used to transport the waste to the site and the process used to turn the waste into energy. We were able to visit the control room to see how the machines operate and were able to visit the boiler platform to see the waste fire which burns at 1000 degrees!
