Monday 18th December was International Migrants Day and we wanted to ensure that students were made aware of this. Activities took place in school and some staff and students volunteered their time on Tuesday shopping and putting Christmas hampers together for some of the refugees who are now settled in Hull. On the photo is one of our young people, K with staff at the centre. Hull is a City of Sanctuary so is identified as a recognised place of welcome and safety for people seeking sanctuary. Welcome House is a local registered charity, set up in 2020, working across Hull and East Riding, offering welcome and support to asylum seekers and refugees in order to make them feel welcome, included and supported. This is a link which we hope to develop moving forward and K, our learner is very keen to return.
Staff and students have been very generous with their time and resources this week. As we approach Christmas we are thinking of those who are less fortunate. We have bags of food for the local Food Bank at the Children’s centre in town and are delivering some home-made biscuits to elderly people in the local Care home.
Happy Christmas from all of us at Cambian School Beverley!
